Invest in a memory…

I spent my younger years growing up and around the West Midlands and Birmingham the birthplace of “Heavy metal” was the go-to place to see up an coming bands. In the early seventies and eighties the West Midlands had a vibrant music scene with concert venues constantly selling out.

The rush of adrenalin when the house lights dimmed and the eager run to get to the front of the stage, often jumping over seats was a sight to behold…and a memory to treasure!!

Birmingham the birthplace of “Heavy metal” was the go-to place to see up an coming bands.

Birmingham Odeon, Wolverhampton Civic Hall, Victoria Hall, Hanley and the Iconic if somewhat decrepit Bingley Hall (It was even renamed The NEW Bingley hall!!) in Stafford all within an hours drive were the venues that some of these great bands played and me and my friends were lucky enough to witness.

Genesis – A Trick of the Tail 1976

A Trick Of The Tail, with its charming cast of mythical beasts, ‘mesmerised children’ and ‘snowflakes in June’, is both a last hurrah for the ‘old’ Genesis and the beginning of something entirely new. “People didn’t want to give up on Genesis,” said Phil Collins. “They wanted us to stay together, so they backed me up.”

In June ’76, Peter Gabriel slipped quietly into the Hammersmith Odeon to watch the new band. “It was a very strange experience and I had mixed emotions,” he admitted.
